ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Two ladies attempted to hang a banner from the Acropolis in Athens Sunday morning in dispute on the upcoming Beijing Cold weather Olympics, and were detained by Greek police.
The activists, 18-one year-used Tibetan pupil Tsela Zoksang and 22-one year-used exiled Hong Kong activist Joey Siu, both American electorate, are members of the “No Beijing 2022” campaign, an announcement from the Unique York-based group Students for a Free Tibet acknowledged.
They, and a third person, entered the archeological keep as paying customers and then Zoksang and Siu climbed up some scaffolding, from which they attempted to unfurl the banner.
A security officer rushed to them and took the banner away. The two ladies remained on the scaffolding and deployed a Tibetan flag and a smaller banner proclaiming, “Free Hong Kong Revolution.” As well they chanted slogans collectively with “Free Tibet,” “Boycott Beijing 2022” and “No freedom, no Games.” Police arrived and detained the protesters.
All the incident lasted about 10 minutes.
“Now it’s time for the world community, and all of us of conscience, to consume a stand and boycott Beijing 2022; anything else less shall be a transparent endorsement of China’s genocidal regime,” Zoksang turned into quoted as saying in the observation. ”The IOC is sending the world a message that it’s ok to flip a blind glimpse to genocide and crimes towards humanity in Hong Kong, Tibet, East Turkestan and Southern Mongolia,” added Siu.
The Olympic flame for the 24th Cold weather Games shall be lit at Ancient Olympia Monday and handed over to the Chinese at a ceremony in Athens’ Panathenian Stadium Tuesday. The World Olympic Committee’s Govt Board met in Athens Saturday. The board will obtain at Ancient Olympia later Sunday to fetch a gleaming time the 100th anniversary of the Govt Board’s founding.
